Fluoride levels in UK infant milks
AIM To provide a comprehensive report of fluoride concentration in UK infant milks and estimate their contribution to daily fluoride intake. METHODS A total of 60 formula milk products available commercially or within a hospital environment were analysed, along with eight pasteurised cow's milk samples. Formula milk products requiring preparation were reconstituted with fresh Leeds tap water ...
متن کاملInvestigation of the 'satisfying' quality of infant formula milks.
The 'satisfying' quality of a typical, current formula milk was compared with that of an earlier type with higher protein and mineral content in a double blind, cross over trial in 10 infants. There were no significant differences in the amount of crying or volume consumed which meant that there was a higher sodium and protein intake but no associated improvement in 'satisfaction'.
متن کاملAbsorption of calcium from milks enriched with fructo-oligosaccharides, caseinophosphopeptides, tricalcium phosphate, and milk solids.
BACKGROUND Adequate intakes of calcium are required for optimal bone health and protection against chronic disease. Dairy products are an excellent source of calcium. OBJECTIVE The absorption of calcium from a range of fortified milks was measured in humans with the use of stable isotopes. DESIGN Fifteen volunteers participated in a randomized, controlled, double-blind crossover study. Five...
متن کاملDisorders of Fat Absorption
I have often been asked how I can keep to so narrow a field as steatorrhoea over a period of years, and my answer has always been that there are so many inviting problems in this field; my main difficulty is really one of confining my energies to a few of them. For instance, there is a wide variety of clinical conditions in which steatorrhoea is seen, often present only as part of a syndrome of...

ATHEROSCLEROSIS and its accompany18x ing vascular lipoidosis has been linked to an inborn error in fat metabolism. The observations that atheroselerosis and hypercholesterolemia frequently coexist,l 2 that both can be produced in animals following cholesterol feedings,3 and that atherosclerosis is unusual when people eat little animal fat, favor this concept.4-5 The unusual physical state and t...
